My Story
I’m on a mission to accelerate environmental conservation by helping aspiring sustainable businesses grow their impact.
Life as we know it is completely dependent on the earth’s ability to support the ever-encroaching of our species into every ecosystem. I believe that humankind is at a critical juncture and we face some of the greatest challenges our civilisation has yet to encounter.
After seeing the fragility of our global ecological systems from the steady increase of climate disasters and environmental degradation, I made the conscious decision to change the trajectory of my work.
For over a decade, I’ve helped organizations promote and grow their business without much of a thought of the impact (or lack there of) that I was having on our world. After doing some serious self-reflection, I now look to use my skills and expertise to develop a genuine love and care for the natural world that will help to reverse the damage done to our planet.
The love of the wild
Growing up in the Canadian countryside, I developed a deep connection to the natural world. I spent most of my childhood roaming the endless fields and woodlands around my hometown.
However, it was the time spent with my family at the cottage my grandparents had built that has had the deepest and most enduring impact on me. The quiet moments in nature like floating on the still reflective mirror of the lake while fishing with my dad at sunrise, or the incessant buzz of cicadas on dry hot days, or the funny stories my grandpa would tell my brothers and I by the firelight, conjuring imagery in our minds of simple times gone by. It’s these moments that inspired my desire to protect the wild places of our planet.
The natural world became so important to me that I dedicated my studies at university to ecology and conservation. The time spent doing experiments in habitats from the freshwater lakes of Ontario to the pristine coral reefs of Jamaica solidified my understanding of how precious this planet of ours truly is and the need for all of us to do our part in protecting it.
A Passion in training
The very explorative nature of my studies drove me further to learn more about our world. My hunger for knowledge took me across the globe to countries like Japan, Laos and Peru. It was in this time I developed the love of photography.
The organic development of my photographic skills started purely as a way to document life around me as I traveled from place to place. As I spent more and more time looking at the world through the lens, I endeavoured to develop my love of photography from merely a hobby to a craft.
I tried the different styles of photography like I was trying on new clothes and the outfits that felt the most right were landscape and street photography. The natural world continued to draw me in but I also began to gain a deep appreciation for telling the everyday stories of people on the streets.
Whether I’m shooting film or digital, behind the computer or hands deep in the chemicals of the darkroom, my love of photography offers an infinite place to play, learn and grow.
Culminating in Service
While learning the craft, I took my photography from practice to profession. For over 14 years, I have been working as a corporate and commercial photographer helping businesses promote their work and get them to the next level.
The ongoing climate crisis and the pandemic has shown me the importance of aligning my work with my values and that I can play an active role in creating a world that’s not only better for our own way of life but for all our fellow earthlings.
I’ve now come full circle and want to use the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired over my lifetime to make a difference and help purpose-driven organizations grow their ability to make that change.
It would be my pleasure to offer up my abilities to you and help you get there.
So How Can I Help You?
Let’s start with a quote.
“The most powerful person in the world is a storyteller. The storyteller sets the vision, values and agenda of the entire generation that is to come.“
- Steve Jobs
We are hard-wired to tell and absorb stories. They are fundamental to what it means to be human. Our lives are completely saturated by them and yet we still can’t get enough. Our ability to recognize, relate to and empathize with our fellow human beings is what has given us the ability to grow our species to the planet-spanning civilization it is today.
It is this simple yet powerful tool that helps us set the vision, values and plan for the world to come. So let’s take your personal story, the story of your organisation, the stories of the people you work with, the stories of the people you help and the places you protect and share them with the world.
The work you’re doing and the positive change you’re creating is vital to the well-being of our species and the planet so let’s celebrate it and share it in a way that inspires others to take up the charge and move us into a greener and more prosperous future.
Whatever it may be, the way you tell your story can make all the difference.
